Are you about to move? Packing and unpacking are stressful. To make your moving experience easier, we’ve compiled some helpful tips for packing up your home.

1.) Ready essential items for packing before starting. It includes the following but is not limited to:

  • Boxes
  • Markers
  • Colored stickers/tape
  • Scissors
  • Scrap paper
  • Bubble wrap or rolls
  • Paper rolls
  • Courier bags

Keep packing supplies handy by storing them in baskets, so they’re easy to access when needed-especially if you’ll be moving around.

2.) Get various box sizes – With boxes of all shapes and sizes, you can pack your belongings in a way that suits how you want to carry them. Smaller boxes are great for carrying heavier things like books. Something bulky but light, such as pillows or blankets are better suited for larger boxes – just remember not to fill it up with heavy items.

3.) The best way to pack for a move is by room – When you organize your belongings that way, it’s easier to find what you’re looking for and make the most of all available space in boxes or storage units, so everything has its place.

4.) Label boxes accordingly – Color coordinate by using markers or stickers. Label them at the side to be easily accessed and read when stacked on each other. Color-code each box according to the room. Whether it is red for the master bedroom or green in the kitchen, you will find it easier to identify, saving you time and energy.

5.) Mark fragile items with a marker to prevent breakage. This will help distinguish if a particular box is delicate and needs special handling; making it easier for those around you.

6.) Secure breakable items such as glassware and china by bubble wrap or using paper scraps, clothes, scarves, or towels wrapped around them. You can also use cardboard as a divider for cushion

7.) Plastic wrap your drawers, so you don’t need to empty them out. This will allow for a quick clean-up without the hassle of sorting through everything. You can also use the hanger and trash bag trick for your clothes for easy organization.

8.) Repurpose materials you already have. Remember that suitcases and hampers are perfect for storing clothes and any other things. At the same time, you can transform food storage into makeshift containers for your small items, such as jewelry pieces.

9.) Tape screws and bolts on the furniture before you pack it. This simple step will save time when unpacking because they won’t get lost or go missing during transit.

10.) Pack boxes with heavier items on the bottom and lighter ones on top so that everything is balanced. To keep your load safe, ensure all things have a uniform weight in each box, so nothing falls out when transporting or stacking. This will decrease the risk of breakage from falls as well as damage during handling.
